erin-dalton

Erin Dalton

I began taking piano lessons when I was five years old and my mother, a church organist/pianist, was my instructor. However, it was not until my junior year of high school that piano became more than just an extracurricular activity to me: I decided to devote my life to being a musician. I graduated from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC, in the spring of 2008 with a degree in Music Composition ( primary concentration in piano; secondary in voice). I have since then taught piano independently, spent time teaching music for a non-profit’s arts program in Aliquippa, PA, and frequently lead music for my church (http://broadrivercc.com/). In teaching, I believe that grounding a student in basic theory and a variety of classical styles is equally important to allowing the student to play music that they enjoy, no matter what genre or style it may be. I like for the student to be reminded of the reason they love music through what is familiar to them, but to, at the same time, discover new loves in music that is unfamiliar to them.
